Eloise is the name of the protagonist in a series of children's books written by Kay Thompson and illustrated by Hilary Knight.

Eloise is a six-year-old girl who lives in the "room on the tippy-top floor" of the Plaza Hotel in New York with her Nanny, her pug dog Weenie, and her turtle Skipperdee. Thompson's god-daughter, Liza Minnelli, has been cited as a possible model for Eloise, as has the author herself.

This illustration is from an invitation I received from Graphics Gallery for an exhibition in New York at the Plaza Hotel of original art and book signing by Hilary Knight in 2002.

Day 58/365 - Cookie and Pom Pom

I'm fascinated by old books that have notes inside. Who is Cookie? Who is Pom Pom? Are they someone's grandparents? Maybe Cookie is the Mother and Pom Pom is her poodle? I wonder. Inside, there's a label "From the books of Mike Feldman". I wonder if Cookie is aware that Mike sold this book at a garage sale? I won't tell.

Eloise is Always Eloise!

These fantastic Eloise buttons were made by Ken Morton (www. mushycat.com). I have many of his wonderful buttons. Eloise is one of my favorite characters along with her dog, Weenie, and Skipperdee.

Someday soon...

As soon as June is old enough to listen to these wonderful stories, I'm all prepared to read them to her!

I hope she will develop a love of reading like her Nana!
